St. Hilda of Whitby or Hild of Whitby (c. 614–680) is a Roman Catholic saint and the founding abbess of the monastery at Whitby, which was chosen as the venue for the Synod of Whitby. An important figure in the conversion of England to The Holy Roman Catholic Church, she was abbess at several monasteries and recognized for the wisdom that drew kings to her for advice. Feastday: Nov. 17

He was sent from Italy to England by Pope Gregory the Great, on a mission to Christianize the Anglo-Saxons from their native paganism, probably arriving with the second group of missionaries despatched in 601. Justus became the first Bishop of Rochester in 604. Nov 10

Bl. John Bodey, Roman Catholic and English Martyr. When he repudiated King Henry VIII’s claim of supremacy in spiritual matters, he was arrested in 1550. John was imprisoned at Winchester until 1583, when he was taken on November 2 to Andover where he was hanged. Feastday: November 2
