St. Thomas Becket - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online St. Thomas Becket, Roman Catholic Priest and English Martyr. was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder in 1170. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He engaged in conflict with Henry II of England over the rights and privileges of the Church and was murdered by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral. Soon after his death, he was canonised by Pope Alexander III. Feastday Dec 29

Bl. William Howard - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online Bl. William Howard, Roman Catholic Priest and English Martyr. He was arrested on the false accusation of complicity in the so-called Popish Plot and imprisoned for two years before finally being beheaded on Tower Hill. Feastday Dec 29

12th February - Blessed James Fenn and Companions - Independent Catholic News Martyrs. Born in 1540, James Fenn came from Montacute, near Yeovil in Somerset. His brothers John and Robert were both priests. He studied at Corpus Christi College in Oxford where he was known as a fine singer - but he was expelled when he refused to take the oath of supremacy declaring Queen Elizabeth head of the Church. He subsequently became a schoolteacher, married, and had two children.
